It's been great working with Connor (our latest and greatest, brand-new WBL student) at work these past few days. And as he's twirled in my chair, doodling silly tree pictures on fresh labels, he's caught on to how I do things. Or rather, how I decide.
Me, revealing secrets time. Brace yourself.
Album Art. If it's unusual and/or simple, its a thumbs up (Pandora style. Whoo.) Here are a few examples to help you with your upcoming search.
Plain and simple. Remember that the next time you peruse through Hastings or WalMart's Cd collection. Because this advice almost goes hand in hand with "unheard of" and "shut-the-front-door" awesome.
Suggested songs to start your new and improved taste in music:
Iron and Wine's "Each Coming Night"
Avalanche City's "Love, Love, Love" or "You and I"...or "Sunset" mmmm...yum. Favorite.
Greg Laswell's "Comes and Goes"
And if you're in the mood for something new, yet totally old school:
The Paper Kites "Bloom" or their "Featherstone"
Phoenix's "Liszotmania"
Modest Mouse's "Float On"
Then for those "day dreaming days" you wish to be alone, walking down cobblestone streets: TRY THESE.
Parachutes "Paper Birds" instrumentals can be wicked awesome too you know. Explore your options.
Or a more classic feel, Ingrid Michaelson's "Keep Breathing" A personal favorite. (All of her songs would fall under the "Thumbs Up" category.)
My Plea to Save Yourself:
Stop listening to Power 99.1, Zoo 102, and/or Star 101.5 (yes I know Seattle's station too) . Change your taste in music. Honestly, it's probably not even your taste in music. It's probably something you feel you have to listen to in order to feel cool and fit in. Crap is NOT popular. It's no emotion, no quality, no good. I'm sorry if this is too blunt, but seriously. Why would you subject your ears to this kind of trash?
I'm done.
hah.
But in all seriousness, there's hope. It just needs to be discovered.
By you :)
