Do you see the way they look at each other? That's love.
There are only five romance movies that can make me cry uncontrollably.
1. The Titanic
2. Sommersby
3. Somewhere in Time
4. Far and Away
5. What Dreams May Come
Today I watched two of them. Titanic (obviously) and Sommersby.
For those who've never seen either of the two, both male leads are named Jack.
And both fall in love.
Everyone knows the story of Jack and Rose from Titanic, but how many know the story of Jack Sommersby?
SPOILER.
He's not really Jack Sommersby. Jack Sommersby was killed during war, and the man posing as Jack returns back to Jack's home (the real one) and falls in love with Laurel (Jacks wife). In return, she falls in love with him as well. However, from the very start she's known that he's not her husband, but she lets him in anyways. In the end, Jack (the REAL Jack) is tried with Murder and the man posing as Jack goes through with it (the hanging) in order to protect Laurel and his slaves. (I know, its getting confusing.) Before he walks to the gallows though, he tells Laurel that the only way he could get through it, would be if she were there with him. So as he stands at the gallows, waiting to be hung, he searches the crowd. She isn't there. Panicking, he tells the hangmen to wait because he isn't ready. While at the same time, Laurel is pushing through the crowd trying to get to Jack (the fake Jack). He screams out her name "Laurel!" and finally he see's her, making her way through the crowd, screaming "I'm here." And with tears in his eyes, he smiles as the man puts a white cloth over his head. <--I'm crying by this point.
And that's it.
The movies practically over.
Both Jacks are incredibly heroic.
...and incredibly romantic.
Do you love like Jack?
They both gave up their lives for the one's they loved.
Would you?
