There a few things that get my spirits down. I'm a happy-go-lucky kind of girl but when someone starts talking about this generation, or when I turn on the radio, ( 98.3 or 99.1) I get a little....depressed. And I'm not sure if the word depressed really explains how I feel but I definitely get in the "pondering" mood.
SECRET: I've always felt like I was in the wrong place...at the wrong time. What I mean by that is this generation of Vans, Thick Stitch Jeans, too much Makeup, and Abercrombie clothes...its just not me. Sure I could fight the urge to dress and listen to the same type of music as everyone else but I don't have that kind of courage. The courage it takes to stand out and represent MY culture (compared to Pop Culture). A recent conversation with my parents re-sparked my love for the 50's, early 60's and 80's. (Please note that I'm only including the 80's love songs..JUST love songs. There are some WEIRD 80's songs out there.) Why couldn't I have been born during THOSE times? When music was clean and happy. I mean, who can resist the song Stand by Me? Lets compare iTunes top 10 songs for the week to my top 10 songs. Pop Culture Top 10: 1. Someone like you. 2. Moves like Jagger. 3. Pumped up Kids. 4. You and I. 5. You make me feel. 6. Stereo Hearts. 7. Cheers (drink to that). 8. Party Rock Anthem. 9. How to love. 10. Mirrors. My Culture Top 10: 1. This will be. 2. Stand by Me. 3. Almost Paradise. 4. Come go with me. 5. Rockin Robin. 6. Who wrote the book of love. 7. Teenager in love. 8. One find day. 9. Sailing. 10. Walk like a man.
There's definitely a difference. And to cut myself out of the pop culture lifestyle I turn my station to 94.9 or 102.7--the country stations. But if I had one wish, it would be for pop culture to embrace THESE songs again...(My top ten list) the classics. Let me tell ya, there's nothing CLASSIC about boys and girls singing about getting drunk and hookin up with strangers and skinny dipping in the dark. Thats just....so wrong. On many levels actually.
SECRET: I've always wanted to live in the Pride and Prejudice days...or perhaps the Anne of Green Gables time era. I feel like thats where I would fit in the most. (I know the 50's and 60's music didn't exist during those times but back then, they didnt even have time for shananigans like that.) REASON: Their mannerisms and the way they dressed and the way they danced are so much more....elegant, romantic, gracefull, more...me. I mean who likes going to school listening to profain, vulgar, hormone raging males and females? Count me out. Can you imagine what it would be like to live like Anne of Green Gables? In a small town where everyone knows everyone, where people actually THINK before they speak, where people NEVER curse or use foul, degrading words....I can. And I always do imagine myself there. I guess you could call it my happy place. But sadly, I have to wake up every morning to the sad realization that I'm NOT in a small town where everyone knows my name (Cheers anyone? lol) And that's when I put on my thick stitch jeans, my makeup, and pull on my Aeropostale T-shirt. That's when I turn on the engine to my car and switch the station to 94.9, Thats when I go to school listening to everyone's "I'm so cool I went drinking last night" weekend stories, That's when I start to think..."Man, I'm in the wrong place, at the wrong time."
